Who Founded It?

Okay, no need to scratch your heads, as the person behind its foundation is a woman called Marie Tussaud in 1835. She was an expert artist from France who was known for her amazing curation of wax statues. And so she became the popular founder of Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in London.

Marie’s mother was employed under a skilled physician Phillippe Curtius from Switzerland. He was a master in modeling wax figures. Young Tussaud became his pupil and learned the art of wax modeling. At a very small age, she joined her mentor Curtius in Paris. When gained experience, the first wax sculpture made by her in 1777 was of French philosopher, writer, and historian, Voltaire.
